Florida Woman Gives Birth To Twins, Says She Didn’t Know She Was Pregnant

WEST MELBOURNE, Florida – A Florida woman who gave birth in a bathroom to twins told police that she was unaware of her pregnancy.

According to West Melbourne police, thirty-year-old Rachael Lynn Thomas left work because she was not feeling well and went home on Sunday.

She then continued to feel “bad” and decided to go use the restroom where she ended up giving birth into the toilet.

Thomas then cut the umbilical cord with a pair of scissors but did not tell police where she placed the scissors afterwards.

Thomas told police that she placed the baby inside of a blue shirt and started cleaning up the mess that had been made from the birth.

Thomas also said that she never saw the baby open its eyes, cry or breathe and that the newborn was cold to the touch and blue in color.

Thomas then called 911 at 12:08 p.m. for emergency medical services. The child was taken to Holmes Regional Hospital and pronounced deceased at 12:40 pm.

When police asked Thomas about the placenta, she said she believed it was flushed down the toilet. Police later searched a trash can where a plastic bag was located that appeared to contain the placenta. But when the bag was opened, another newborn was discovered inside with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck and underneath her arm.

Thomas later told police that both babies were blue upon delivery and that neither moved or made any sounds.

Police later charged Thomas with two counts of child neglect and one count of tampering with evidence. She is being held at the Brevard County Jail on $30,000 bond.

Police say that the investigation is ongoing and that other charges are pending.
