FPL Customers To Receive Refund For Hurricane Matthew Surcharges

Florida Power & Light customers will see a refund for Hurricane Matthew surcharges after the power giant reached a settlement with the State of Florida for overcharging customers for the costs related to storm damage caused by Hurricane Matthew in 2016.

After collecting an extra $3 per month from an average customer for Hurricane Matthew expenses, FPL ended the surcharge on March 1.

If the settlement is approved by the Florida Public Service Commission, customers would see a one-time refund applied to their bills which would amount to around one-month’s surcharge, or just over $3.
