BREVARD COUNTY, Florida – School administrator Mollie Vega was selected as director of Secondary Leading and Learning for Brevard Public Schools where she’ll lead principals of multiple middle and high schools.
“I am looking forward to continuing to work with and support secondary principals throughout the county and to have a more global impact on student learning,” said Vega. “I am excited and appreciative to the board members, Dr. Desmond Blackburn and Dr. Stephanie Soliven for their confidence in selecting me for this position.”
Vega has worked in education for 19 years, all of which have been with Brevard Public Schools. She served in her most recent role as the principal of Merritt Island High for four years.
Previously, she was a math teacher at Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High, dean at Southwest Middle in Palm Bay, assistant principal of student activities and facilities at Merritt Island High, assistant principal for curriculum at Stone Magnet Middle in Melbourne and principal of Hoover Middle in Indialantic.
“I have enjoyed all of my experiences with Brevard Public Schools,” Vega said. “Each school I worked at was like a family where they embraced and worked with their colleagues. BPS has great students, families and employees.”
She earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Texas at Arlington. She then received a master’s degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
Vega, a Melbourne resident, likes to exercise, travel and read in her free time. She enjoys spending time with her two daughters who are now enrolled in college. According to Vega, both of her daughters attended district schools where they received excellent educations.
