One Dead In Merritt Island Walmart Shooting

MERRITT ISLAND, Florida – One person is dead in a shooting that occurred at a Walmart located at 1548 East Merritt Island Causeway in Merritt Island, Florida.

The investigation began shortly after 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening after the Sheriff’s Office received several reports of a shooting at the Wal-Mart where at least one person was injured.

The decedent is identified as 27-year-old Shawn Robbins, of Cocoa.

Brevard County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene as customers fled in a panic from the grocery side located on the west side entrance.
When deputies arrived, they found Robbins deceased.

27-year-old Rashad Gibson of Cocoa has been identified as the person who shot Robbins.

Gibson remained at the scene and has been cooperating with the investigation, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s investigators determined that the incident appears to be a relationship dispute concerning an unidentified third party, where the decedent traveled to the Wal-Mart, where Gibson is employed, to confront him.

Robbins was transported to the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office where an autopsy will be conducted.

The investigation is ongoing at this time and no arrest has been made.

The Sheriff’s Office will forward the results of their investigation to the State Attorney’s Office for a decision as to whether charges will be filed in this case.
