NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Florida – Megan Parris, a former New Smyrna Beach High School teacher was arrested today on a charge of unlawful sexual activity with a 16-year-old male student.
Parris turned herself in today after a judge signed a warrant for her arrest.
The 28-year-old Florida teacher was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $25,000 bond.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office investigation began in March after a student reported information about Parris and the student to school authorities.
The school then placed Parris on paid administrative leave and she has not returned to the classroom since.
Investigators say that they established probable cause that Parris had sexual encounters with the student off-campus through interviews and search warrants for digital and other evidence.
This is the second time a New Smyrna Beach teacher was arrested for having sexual relations with a student.
Last year, New Smyrna Beach Middle School science teacher Stephanie Peterson was arrested for allegedly having a sexual relationship with her 14-year-old student.
