MELBOURNE, Florida – A man suspected of murder by intentionally setting a woman on fire in 2017 was arrested on Friday in Melbourne, Florida.
51-year-old Bernard L. Thomas was charged with one count of first-degree murder, two counts of arson and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Thomas is suspected of setting a car on fire while Tracy Adams was inside in Deland, Florida.
Adams, a mother of five, died as a result of the injuries she sustained from the fire.
Just after 8 p.m. on Friday, Melbourne police initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Redwood Lane and Almond Boulevard.
Thomas then pulled the vehicle over and quickly fled on foot but was ultimately apprehended by Melbourne police.
According to the arrest affidavit, Thomas told Melbourne police that he knew he was wanted in Volusia County.
Thomas’ bond is set at $250,000.
