Boy Hit By Car In Apopka

APOPKA, Florida – A 9-year-old boy is in serious condition after he was struck by a vehicle just before 6 p.m on Monday, December 1, 2019, near the intersection of Thompson Road and State Road 436 (East Semoran Boulevard) in Apopka, Florida.

47-year-old Ronnie Strickland was driving a 2014 Ford Focus westbound on State Road 436.

Strickland then made a right turn to travel northbound on Thompson Road.

Meanwhile, the boy was on the sidewalk with his grandmother on the west side of Thompson Road.

Vehicles traveling southbound on Thompson Road were stopped for traffic.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the boy then walked in-between the stopped cars in the southbound lanes and into the direct path of the Ford Focus.

The boy was then hit by the front of the car.

The child was transported to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in serious condition.

Strickland was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and alcohol was not a factor, according to FHP reports.

The crash remains under investigation.
