COZUMEL, Mexico – The Carnival Glory and Carnival Legend cruise ships crashed into each other on Friday morning, December 20, 2019, in Cozumel, Mexico.
The Carnival Glory cruise ship, sailing from New Orleans, Louisiana, was attempting to dock when its stern wrecked into the bow of the Carnival Legend cruise ship, based out of Tampa, Florida.
The Carnival Glory also almost crashed into the nearby Royal Caribbean Cruise ship Oasis of the Seas, that sailed from Miami, Florida.
“Carnival Glory had a collision with Carnival Legend this morning in Cozumel. Carnival Glory was maneuvering to dock when it made contact with Carnival Legend which was already alongside,” Carnival Cruise Lines said in a statement.
“We are assessing the damage, but there are no issues that impact the seaworthiness of either ship. We have advised guests from both ships to enjoy their day ashore in Cozumel.”
Photos posted on Twitter show extensive damage to the Carnival Glory’s stern. But the bow of the Carnival Legend appeared to suffer only minor damage.
