MELBOURNE, Florida – As of 4:50 p.m., the southbound lanes of I-95 are re-opened after being shut down due to a fatal crash that occurred at 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, near mile marker 182 and Eau Gallie Boulevard (State Road 518) Exit in Melbourne, Florida.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 46-year-old Shannon Daniels of Titusville, Florida was riding a 2006 Honda motorcycle southbound on I-95 in the center lane.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Enid Rosa of Kissimmee, Florida was driving a 2020 Nissan Altima in the center lane in front of the motorcycle.
A construction truck was parked on the left shoulder of southbound I-95 in an active construction zone.
A vehicle in front of the Altima merged into the center lane due to the left lane being closed for the construction zone.
Rosa slowed the Altima down to let the other vehicle merge into the center lane.
FHP says that Daniels failed to slow and the front of the motorcycle struck the rear of the Altima.
The motorcycle then continued into the closed left lane and struck the rear of the parked construction truck.
Daniels was pronounced deceased at the scene and transported to the Brevard County Medical Examiner’s Office.
He was wearing his helmet at the time of the crash and alcohol was not a factor, according to FHP reports.
