Man Dies After SUV Plunges Into Indian River Lagoon

BREVARD COUNTY, Florida – A 56-year-old man died after his SUV plunged into the Indian River Lagoon off of Pineda Causeway (State Road 404) on Friday, December 6, 2019, in Brevard County, Florida.

Robert Sena of Melbourne, Florida was driving a 2005 Honda SUV eastbound on Pineda Causeway.

For an unknown reason, the Honda left the roadway and traveled into the Indian River Lagoon near the State Road 404 and US Highway 1 interchange.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Honda became submerged with Sena inside.

Florida Fish and Wildlife were able to locate the vehicle at 11:25 pm. However, it is unknown what time the Honda entered the water, FHP says.

Brevard County Sheriff’s Office divers assisted in retrieving Sena and the Honda from the water.

Sena was transported to the Brevard County Medical Examiners Office where a toxicology exam is pending.

The crash remains under investigation.
