Special Weather Statement For East Central Florida

ORLANDO, Florida – The National Weather Service in Melbourne, Florida has issued a Significant Weather Advisory for Orange County, Seminole County, Northern Brevard County, Volusia County, and Northern Brevard County that will remain in effect until 5:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time on December 17, 2019.

At 4:37 p.m. EST, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from Maytown to Avalon Park, Florida.

The movement of the thunderstorms was to the northeast at 25 mph.

Wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph will be possible with these storms.

Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is also occurring with these storms.

The locations impacted by these strong thunderstorms include Orlando, Port Orange, Titusville, Oviedo, and New Smyrna Beach, Florida.

According to the National Weather Service, torrential rainfall is also occurring with these thunderstorms that may lead to localized flooding.

Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
