President Donald Trump signed into law a bill raising the federal legal age from 18 to 21 to buy cigarettes, other tobacco products, and vapes.

“I will be signing our 738 Billion Dollar Defense Spending Bill today,” Trump tweeted. “It will include 12 weeks Paid Parental Leave, gives our troops a raise, importantly creates the SPACE FORCE, SOUTHERN BORDER WALL FUNDING, repeals “Cadillac Tax” on Health Plans, raises smoking age to 21! BIG!”

Prior to the federal law, 19 states had already raised the legal age to buy tobacco products to 21.

“We want to take care of our kids. We’ve got to take care of our kids,” Trump remarked during a listening session on youth vaping and e-cigarettes last month.
