VOLUSIA COUNTY, Florida – A 52-year-old FedEx driver did not survive the injuries he sustained after being struck by a vehicle just after 4 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, on I-4 near mile marker 120 in Volusia County, Florida.
21-year-old Travis Hutto of Deltona, Florida was driving a 2007 Dodge pickup truck westbound on I-4 in the right line.
Meanwhile, a FedEx truck with dual trailers was stopped in the right emergency lane of westbound I-4.
The FedEx driver, Andre Haber of Palm Bay, Florida, was outside the FedEx truck, standing on the steps near the driver’s side door.
For an unknown reason, the Dodge pickup drifted towards the emergency lane and the front right of the Dodge struck the left side of the FedEx truck and the FedEx driver.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Haber was thrown under the truck and pronounced deceased at the scene.
He was later transported to the Volusia County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Hutto was not under the influence of alcohol and was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, according to FHP reports.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending against Hutto.
