LAKE COUNTY, Florida – A 26-year-old pedestrian did not survive the injuries he sustained after being struck by a vehicle just before 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2020, on County Road 44 near the intersection with Apiary Road in Lake County, Florida.
36-year-old Takeya Williams was driving a 2000 Mitsubishi eastbound on County Road 44.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Leesburg, Florida man was standing in the eastbound lanes of County Road 44 for an unknown reason.
The front of the Mitsubishi then struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene and transported to the Lake County Medical Examiner’s Office.
FHP has not released the man’s identity pending next-of-kin notification.
Williams suffered minor injuries and was transported to AdventHealth Waterman Hospital.
Williams was not under the influence of alcohol and was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, according to FHP reports.
The crash remains under investigation.
