TITUSVILLE, Florida – A teen was arrested for aggravated assault where he allegedly threatened students with a gun at Astronaut High School in Titusville, Florida.
The 16-year-old of Titusville, Florida, was charged with:
Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon
2 counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Minor
Possession of a Firearm on School Property
Aggravated Felony Fleeing and Eluding
Leaving the Scene of a Traffic Crash with Damage
Resisting an Officer without Violence
Possession of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony
Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle
Investigators say that on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at approximately 10 AM, the suspect drove onto the campus of Astronaut High School located at 800 War Eagle Boulevard, brandished a firearm, threatened students and fled the scene in a stolen 2015 black Honda Accord.
The suspect is a former student of the school.
Titusville Police responded to the school, and a “Shelter in Place” activation was initiated while law enforcement secured the scene.
No students or school staff were injured.
On Friday, February 14, 2020, at approximately 10:30 AM, Titusville Police initiated a traffic stop on the stolen Honda Accord that the suspect was driving.
The suspect did not comply, fled from officers and subsequently crashed minutes later into an unmarked black Titusville Police Chevy Impala near Deleon Avenue and Pine Street.
There were no injuries.
Officers quickly took the teen and a passenger, 18-year-old Tony Shaniel Butler, Jr. of Titusville, into custody after a short foot pursuit.
Police recovered several firearms from inside the stolen vehicle.
Butler, a student at Astronaut High School, was charged with Resisting an Officer without Violence and booked into the Brevard County Jail.
The teen was transported to the Brevard County Juvenile Detention Center.
