Cocoa Beach, Brevard County Beaches To Remain Open

COCOA BEACH, Florida – Cocoa Beach and the rest of Brevard County beaches will remain open for now, Brevard County Commission Chair Bryan Lober announced during a press conference on Wednesday.

The Brevard County Policy Group and the Space Coast League of Cities discussed closing beaches from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. earlier today, but decided to keep beaches open for now.

The beach closure proposal would have to go before the Brevard County Commission for approval and would also require the approval of each beachside incorporated city.

On March 18, Cocoa Beach and the rest of Brevard County closed down beach parking and beach parks to deter crowds.

But visitors parked at alternate public parking spots further away from the beach or paid to park at private business parking lots.

On March 19, the City of Cocoa Beach banned alcohol on the beach to further defer crowds.

The first case of coronavirus was detected in Cocoa Beach on March 24.
