President Donald Trump signed the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act into law which established the U.S. Space Force as the sixth Armed Service of the United States, under the U.S. Air Force.

While independent, the U.S. Space Force is nested within the Department of the Air Force, much as the Marine Corps is connected to the Department of the Navy.
