UPDATE: IRS Launches Get My Payment Tool To Check Status Of Stimulus Check

Millions of Americans will receive their COVID-19 stimulus check this week from the Internal Revenue Service that will be direct deposited automatically into their bank account.

IRS Track My Stimulus Tool

You will soon be able to track the status of your IRS stimulus payment and when you will get your stimulus payment.

“As the first Economic Impact Payments start being issued, next week #IRS will launch a tool that provides taxpayers the status of a payment, including the date it’s scheduled to be deposited or mailed,” the IRS tweeted.

When the IRS does launch the Track My Stimulus Tool, it will be located at http://www.irs.gov/eip

When is the Stimulus Check Being Deposited?

The IRS stated on Twitter that it started to deposit the first Economic Impact Payments into taxpayers’ bank accounts on April 11.

Millions of Americans who have already provided the IRS with their direct deposit information on their 2019 or 2018 tax returns will receive their economic stimulus payment deposited into their bank account by April 17.

Social Security recipients will receive their economic impact payments automatically without the need to file a tax return. Those stimulus check deposits will occur the week after the IRS distributes payments to tax filers (around the last week of April or the first week of May).

The IRS will begin issuing paper checks on April 24 to Americans who do not have their direct deposit information on file with the IRS.

Stimulus payments will be issued starting with those with the lowest Adjusted Gross Income then proceed upward.

IRS Stimulus Check Portal

The Internal Revenue Service launched a payment portal for the coronavirus economic stimulus payment where non-filers can enter their direct deposit, income, and the number of dependents information.

“People who don’t have a return filing obligation can use this tool to give us basic information so they can receive their Economic Impact Payments as soon as possible,” said IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig.

“The IRS and Free File Alliance have been working around the clock to deliver this new tool to help people.”

To get to the IRS payment portal, visit the IRS website at https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payments.

This economic stimulus payment portal is for non-tax filers only.

You should use this application if:

You did not file a 2018 or 2019 federal income tax return because your gross income was under $12,200 ($24,400 for married couples). This includes people who had no income.

Or you weren’t required to file a 2018 or 2019 federal income tax return for other reasons.

I have not filed my tax return for 2018 or 2019. Can I still receive an economic impact payment?

Yes. The IRS urges anyone with a tax filing obligation who has not yet filed a tax return for 2018 or 2019 to file as soon as they can to receive an economic impact payment.

Taxpayers should include direct deposit banking information on the return.

How do I get my stimulus check 2020?

The vast majority of people do not need to take any action. The IRS will calculate and automatically send the stimulus payment to those eligible.

For people who have already filed their 2019 tax returns, the IRS will use this information to calculate the payment amount.

For those who have not yet filed their return for 2019, the IRS will use information from their 2018 tax filing to calculate the payment.

The economic impact payment will be deposited directly into the same banking account reflected on the return filed.
