3 Zip Codes Accounted For Half of New COVID-19 Cases in Brevard County This Week

BREVARD COUNTY, Florida – There are 545 coronavirus cases in Brevard County as of Sunday, June 14, 2020, the Florida Department of Health announced. This is a weekly increase of 88 cases since last Sunday, June 7, 2020.

Just three zip codes accounted for nearly half of those new coronavirus cases (42 of 88) in Brevard County this week.

The 32922 Cocoa zip code continues to be the number one Brevard County zip code with the most amount of both cumulative and new COVID-19 cases.

A month ago, the 32922 zip code was in 15th place with only 11 cases on May 7, 2020. That number more than doubled in two weeks to 23 cases by May 21st. By June 7th, the cases nearly doubled again to 40. That number increased again to 59 by June 14th with 19 new cases this week.

The 32904 Melbourne Village, Melbourne, Palm Bay, West Melbourne zip code saw the second-highest weekly increase with 12 new cases.

The 32955 Rockledge zip code had the third-highest with 11 new cases.

By city, Cocoa had the highest number of new cases this week with 23. Melbourne was the second-highest with 18 new cases followed by Palm Bay with 10.

29,444 people in Brevard have tested negative and 545 positive to date. 0 are inconclusive. 2 are awaiting testing.

Six males and nine females have died from COVID-19 in Brevard County. Their ages range from 63 to 94. Three of those deaths were patients at long-term care facilities.

11 cases are non-residents.

22 of the cases had prior travel to New York. 5 of those 17 New York cases are non-Florida residents.

The State of Florida does not publish the number of recovered coronavirus cases.

“I have asked the Department of Health to track and/or share statistics on “recovered” patients and was told that there are no plans to do that at present as they do not believe there is a standard method to determining “recovered,” Florida State Representative Randy Fine (R-Palm Bay) wrote on his Facebook page.
