(Palm Bay)–A suspect wanted in connection with an armed robbery at a local Walgreens pharmacy was taken into custody late Thursday and later died at the hospital from a suspected drug overdose. Lawrence Raley, (dob 11-11-1979) was facing felony charges for an armed robbery that occurred on Sunday at the Walgreens Pharmacy located at 175 Malabar Road NW.
The suspect was seen on video entering the store at approximately 3:45 p.m. with a backpack and handgun. He demanded medication from the employees while showing the handgun. He fled on foot. Detectives later received information from anonymous sources that implicated Raley in the crime.
Agents with the Special Investigations Unit then began follow up investigation and obtained a search warrant for Raley’s home located at 3485 Airia St. in Melbourne. With assistance from the Melbourne Police Department and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Game Over Task Force the suspect was taken into custody and the search warrant was executed. “At the time of his arrest the suspect appeared to be under the influence and severely incoherent,” said Sgt. Tim Zander of the Special Investigations Unit. “He was taken to the hospital where he later died.”
The search warrant of the Airia Street residence yielded the revolver believed to have been used in the robbery along with a hat and gloves worn. Raley is believed to have been responsible for other similar crimes in the area including an armed robbery in Melbourne.
