According to the New York Daily News and Entertainment Weekly, Sesame Street will debut a “poor” muppet to teach children sensitivy about poverty.

The show reflects a sign of the times where unemployment runs at 9.1%, 1 out of ever 6 Americans are on food stamps, and an ever growing percentag of children who qualify for free or reduced lunches at school.
