MELBOURNE, Fla. — For the third holiday season in a row, the District 5 Commission Office is helping Aging Solutions with its annual Elves for Elders campaign. The Elves for Elders Drive benefits individuals served by Aging Solutions. All donations received will go directly to services and needs of wards in Brevard County.
“The success of this program last year was unbelievable,” Commissioner Andy Anderson said. “People were so generous and the seniors were thrilled with their gifts. My staff and I knew that we wanted to be involved with this fantastic cause again this year for these special citizens.”
Aging Solutions has a wish list for each of the 70 seniors in its care. The District 5 Office is helping distribute these wish lists through an Adopt-a-Senior program.
It is simple to participate. Contact the District 5 office by calling (321) 253-6611 or stop by the offices at 1515 Sarno Road, Melbourne, to request the wish list of a senior. Lists are now available. You will be given a list for a specific senior with items that he or she would like to receive for the holidays. Items are not luxurious but meet basic needs, such as socks, pajamas, robes, sweatpants, lotions, soaps, bras and underwear. You would then place the items in one large Christmas bag (no wrapping, no tissue paper) and bring them to the District 5 office, which will get the items to Aging Solutions.
Wards living in a group home, Assisted Living Facility or Nursing Home, are only allowed by Medicaid to keep $35 each month of any Social Security, pension or other income they may receive. This is all they have to purchase their basic needs. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
