Brevard County Public Schools Remain Open, Volusia County Closes For Hurricane Hermine

BREVARD COUNTY, Florida – While neighboring Volusia County along with several other counties in Central Florida have announced that school will be closed on Friday, September 2, 2016, due to Hurricane Hermine making landfall, Brevard County Public Schools administrators under recently-appointed Dr. Desmond Blackburn have decided to keep school open.

Although schools will not be closed in Brevard County on Friday, outdoor activities were canceled on Thursday, BPS announced on its Facebook page just after 4 p.m. – well into when many extracurricular activities were scheduled to be underway or short notice prior to starting.

On Wednesday, Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a State of Emergency for 42 counties which included Brevard County as Hermine approaches Florida bringing possible tornadoes, waterspouts, flooding, high winds, and heavy rain to the Sunshine State.
