Full Moon Tonight, Monday, August 7, 2017

CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida – There will be a Full Moon tonight on Monday, August 7, 2017. August’s full moon will have a 99.7% illumination.

Nightwatchers will be able to see tonight’s Full Moon beginning with a moonrise over the Atlantic Ocean on Florida’s east coast around 8:12 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (with a few minutes deviation depending on your exact location.)  The moonset will occur around 7:30 a.m. on the following morning.
For those planning a stroll along the beach to watch the Full Moon, the Full Moon brings along with it a 4’0″ high tide that will occur around 8:37 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, with a few minutes of variation depending on your exact location.
Why is a Full Moon in August called a Sturgeon Moon?
These moon names are associated with seasonal occurrences that happen in August. Native American tribes that fished for sturgeon in the U.S. Great Lakes gave the August full moon this name.
