TITUSVILLE, Florida – After tests indicated the presence of feces in drinking water back in March, the City of Titusville is now notifying residents of the results of those tests.

On March 29, 2018, the City of Titusville discovered that the samples collected on March 27, 2018 from three wellfield sample points tested positive for fecal coliform.

The City then collected new samples  on March 29, 2018 from each of the wellfield sample points.  Results from the second round of testing indicated that fecal coliform was no longer present.

Subsequent weekly samples on April 4, April 11, and April 17, 2018 of the three wellfield sample points have remained absent for coliform

Coliform bacteria are indicator organisms. Fecal indicators are microbes whose presence indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes.

Microbes in these wastes can cause short-term health effects, such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.

The symptoms above are not caused only by organisms in drinking water. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, you may want to seek medical advice. People at increased risk should seek advice from their health care providers about drinking this water.

The City said it would re-train its workers to ensure errors do not occur again and that sampling protocols and procedures have been reviewed and amended.
