MIAMI, Florida – NOAA’s National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida issued a Tropical Weather Outlook at 8 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Thursday, November 12, 2020, due to the presence of Invest 98L 2020 that will likely form into a tropical cyclone over the western Caribbean.

Invest 98L is a tropical wave located over the central Caribbean Sea that is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms (marked with a red “X”).

If Invest 98L becomes a tropical storm or hurricane, the next name on the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Greek Alphabet Names List is Iota.

Invest 98L 2020 Projected Path

NHC forecasters say that, while Invest 98L has changed little in organization this evening, a tropical depression will likely form within the next couple of days as it moves slowly westward over the central and western Caribbean Sea.

Interests in Honduras and Nicaragua should closely monitor the progress of this system.

Regardless of development, this disturbance is expected to bring heavy rainfall along with possible flash flooding to portions of Hispaniola over the next day or so.

Invest 98L has a 90% chance of tropical cyclone formation within the next 5 days and an 80% chance within the next 48 hours.

Invest 98L 2020 Computer Models

Computer models are in general agreement that Invest 98L will make landfall near or over Honduras.

September 10 was the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season where tropical cyclone activity significantly increases. But hurricane season can still remain at an increased level of activity through the first half of November, according to NOAA and the National Weather Service’s historical data.

NOAA and Colorado State University forecast an “extremely active” 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season which runs from June 1 through November 30.
